ASAP (Additional Skill Acquisition Programme)
ASAP is a joint initiative of Departments of Higher Education and General Education, Govt. of Kerala initiated with a view to improve the employability quotient of students studying in Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges. The programme aims at equipping selected school/college students with skills in communication, IT and selected areas of industry and service sectors. ASAP imparts 300 hours of skill training to selected first year students. Of these, 180 hours will be a foundation module comprising of Communication Skills and IT skills and the remaining 120 hours will be the module related to the skill sector chosen by the student.
The foundation module includes Communicative English and Information Technology sessions. In Communicative English sessions the students are trained for different types of skills such as personal skills, social skills, organizational skills, professional skills, and preparation and presentation of projects.
IT session covers topics such as introduction to word processing tool, internet, E mail, operating systems, image editing, presentation tool, social network chats and blogs, spread sheet tools and internet transaction service.
D.B. Pampa college has been selected as one of the ASAP centres in 2016 and the college successfully implemented this new initiative of Higher Education department. An orientation programme was conducted for the first year students and their parents by the Programme Manager, ASAP, Pathanamthitta and a total of 26 students belonging to various streams (2016 Admission) were registered for the first batch. The sessions were started on 25thOctober 2016 and the Mr. Jijo Mon, Skill Development Executive from ASAP, handles the Foundation Module. The Foundation Module and the IT classes are conducted in the college following the normal working hours and the skill course- Emergency Medical Technology is imparted at the ASAP Skill Development Centre, GHSS, Kadapra, Pathanamthitta on holidays.
