  Sabarimala Temple Under TDB

    

Pampa College, one of the leading educational institutions in Central Travancore, is managed by Travancore Devaswom Board, which has its headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram. Travancore Devaswom Board, which boasts of managing the world renowned Sabarimala temple, is an autonomous body constituted under the Travancore Cochin Hindu Religious Institutions Act XVth of 1950. It is entrusted with the task of administering 1206 temples in the erstwhile Princely state of Travancore comprised in the state of Kerala which were earlier administered by the ruler of Travancore prior to the integration of the Princely states of Tranvancore and Cochin in 1949. The Constitution of the Board was based on the Covenant entered into by the Maharaja of Travancore in May 1949 and concurred and guaranteed by the Government of India.

 

The Board comprises of President and two members, the President and one member is nominated by the Hindu members of the Council of ministers and the other Member from the Hindu members of State Legislature. The term of the President and Members is for a period of four years. It has a Secretariat and its headquarters is at Nanthencode, Thiruvananthapuram.

The Board has diversified to various fields to better service the society, and education enjoys prime priority in the list. The Board manages four colleges namely Devaswom Board College at Parumala which offers two P.G.programmes and seven degree programmes, Devaswom Board College, Thalayolaparambu offering four P.G.programmes and seven degree courses, Devaswom Board College, Sasthamcottah offering four P.G.courses and 13 degree courses and Sree Ayyappa College, Eramallikkara offering four degree programmes. The Board has set up four +2 schools at Thiruvalla, Thakazhy, Cheriyanad and Parumala, besides eight Devaswom Board High Schools at Thrikkariyoor, Erumeli, Kangazha, Thiruvalla, Parumala, Thakazhy, Cheriyanad and Vamanapuram. The Board also manages five U.P.schools at K.J.M.D.B Parippally, D.B.U.P.S’s at Vilakudi, Angadical and Changakari, and Hindu U.P.S Eramallikkara. Devaswom Board’s L.P.Schools are at Asramam, Thirumullavaram, Pacha, Vaipur and Mampuzhathara. The board keenly felt the necessity of embarking on a amaster plan to foster, revive and reshma-establish the glory and divine splendours of the shrines under its administration and initiated steps for the promulgation of our temple arts and artists. The Shethra Kala Peedom Academy came into existence accordingly in 1982 within the sacered premises of the ancient historic and great Mahadevar temple at Vaikom. This unique institution offers five degree courses on temple arts and rituals, and advanced two year study on Sopana Sangeetham, Kuzhal, Pani and Nagaswaram & Tavil. The Board has also diversified to set up shopping complexes, Aathi Mandirams etc.
