The Women’s Cell was constituted in the college consisting of the representatives from the Lady teaching Staff, Non- teaching staff, Vice chairman, Lady representatives of the college Union and the entire girl students of the college. The Women’s Cell aims to empower the girl students of the college, making them self sufficient through job training sessions and also to make them aware of various problems and solutions for the problems faced by them.
The activities of Women’s Cell of the College, for the academic year 2016-2017 were started on 8th August 2016. The function was presided over by Dr. N. Girija, The President, Women’s Cell. Dr. M. S. Sunil, a renowned Social Worker and Former Head of Zoology Department, Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta inaugurated the function. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. M. Manju (Secretary, Women’s Cell).
Inauguration:- The activities of Women’s Cell of the College, for the academic year 2016-2017 were started on 8th August 2016 with the inaugural ceremony at the College Seminar Hall. The function was presided over by Dr. N. Girija, The President, Women’s Cell. Dr. M. S. Manju (Secretary, Women’s Cell). Dr. R. Jayapal (The Principal), Asst Prof. Asha Radhakrishnan (Former Secretary, Women’s Cell), Dr. Savitha Pramod (Secretary, PTA), Smt. P. A. Sukumari Amma (Executive Committee Member, Women’s Cell) and Kumari V T Sumi (Student Representative) offered felicitations. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. S Vani (Joint Secretary, Women’s Cell). The inauguration function was followed by a seminar on the topic Women Safety and Empowerment by Dr. M. S. Sunil in which she discussed about various strengths of women, the precautions to be taken for women safety and provided legal awareness regarding various laws related to women safety.
Ramayana Quiz, Ramageetham and Ramayanaparayanam:- Women’s Cell organized various competitions for the students in connection with the Ramayana Month on 8th August 2016. In Ramayanaparayanam competition, K. S Athira (B. Com), Nikhil Krishnan (Zoology) and Anu (B. Com) secured the First, Second and Third places respectively. In Ramageetham contest, Athira Vimal (Zoology), K.S. Athira (B.Com) and Neelima (Chemistry) won the First, Second and Third places respectively. In Ramayana Quiz competition, Nikhil Krishnan, P Praveena and S Sreekala (Zoology) secured the First, Second and Third places respectively.
Job Training Sessions for Girl Students:- Women’s Cell organized short term training sessions for the girl students of the college to empower them and thereby making them self sustainable in the society. The one hour long training sessions were organized between 3.30-4.30 pm on regular working days at the Chemistry Seminar Hall and the Trainer was Ms Sherly Varghese, an alumnus of the college. The trainings were given on Fabric painting and Glass painting.
“Amma Ariyuvan”:- Women’s Cell conducted a seminar entitled “Amma Ariyuvan” on 4th October 2016, exclusively for the mothers of our students. Adv. Anil Kumar K. N Pillai (High Court of Kerala) was the resource person. He discussed about various technological advancements occurring in the current world, which most of the mothers were not aware of and the problems created by these technologies in the family. He also suggested solutions to these problems in a simple way and also created awareness regarding various legal procedures that some of the students may happen to face in their life.
The Women’s Cell observed World AIDS day in order to create an awareness regarding the prevention of AIDS. The AIDS day message, “ HANDS UP for HIV Prevention “ was delivered by Mr. Baby Prabhakaran, CEO, The Blue Print Organization, Thiruvananthapuram.
A One day seminar on Women’s Health at various stages was conducted for the girl students and lady staff members of the college on 23rd February 2017 at the college Smart Seminar Hall. The Key note address was delivered by Dr. Priya Devadath, Kottakkal Arya Vaidyasala, Member, State Medicinal Plant Board, Kerala.
Women’s Cell also honored two of our members of the Faculty, Dr. Geetha P ( Asso. Prof. and HOD of Chemistry) and Dr. S Sreekala (Asso. Prof. and HOD of Zoology) for their achievements in Science.Women’s day was celebrated by the girl students of the college by performing a flash mob in association with Kadapra Block Panchayath on 1st March 2017
A counseling session was conducted on 2nd March 2017 for all the first year students of the college by the eminent personality Dr. Anitha.
A training session was conducted on making showpiece items out of solid wastes (plastics, paper & waste cloths) generated in houses as a part of empowerment of the students through self employment and solid waste management. Ms. Laila Varghese, The Principal, Sankaramangalam Public School, Kaviyoor handled the session.
Women Cell took an initiative to provide sanitary napkins to students at the times of need and the cleaning and maintenance of ladies wash rooms.
